Jamestown Healing Clinic (JHC) is seeking MMU Dispensing Nurse
Position Summary
The Jamestown Healing Clinic (JHC) Dispensing Nurse II-RN will work as part of a mobile unit healthcare team to provide services in rural and underserved communities in Clallam County Washington. This position requires administering medications as ordered bymedicalproviderswhile maintaining accurate accounting of all medication received and dispensed with services being provided in a Mobile Medication Unit (MMU). The Dispensing Nurse II-RN is responsible for safekeeping of all medications and accurate medication record keeping required by the DEA, FDA, and Board of Pharmacy.
Essential Functions
  • Administer Methadone or Buprenorphine/Naloxone or Monotherapy Buprenorphine(Suboxone/Subutex)as ordered by the Medical Director and staff providers
  • Maintain accurate accounting of all medication received (from supplier) and dispensed (to the patient)
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all medication stock and the records required by the DEA, State Board of Pharmacy, and JHC
  • Conducts breath alcohol testing, urine collection and processing, reading test results as needed; ensures accurate completion of all forms documenting these procedures
  • Works within scope of license to include measure and record patients’ vital signs, nursing-level physical assessment, patient care or treatment (to include wound care), and patient education
  • Assess patient physical condition, reporting observations to providers either verbally or in writing
  • Alert treatment staff of any observed changes in patient status
  • Enter and update prescriptions and medications in the patients electronic health record
  • Accurately chart patient encounters and patient incidents within the required guidelines
  • Record all inter-agency communications relating to the patient in a timely manner upholding all applicable guidelines
  • Explain the proper use of dispensed medication and its effects to patients
  • Maintain current statistical records
  • Sterilize equipment and supplies, using germicides, sterilizer, or autoclave
  • Adhere to all JHC policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, and work practices as described in the Occupational Exposure Control Plan and HIPAA
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; current RN license in the state of Washington; unrestricted license to practice within the state of Washington
  • Three years of experience in a clinic setting
  • Previous substance abuse treatment and/or primary care experience
  • Knowledge of the current medical practices in primary care, mental health, and addiction medicine
  • Knowledge of substance use disorders and their effects on individuals, families, and communities
  • Phlebotomy skills
  • Experience working with patients in observing and obtaining urine specimens
  • Exceptional personal and ethical boundaries, empathy, and effective communications skills
  • Ability to work in a cross-culture environment, understands the social and cultural context of the patients at the JHC. Understands the role of trauma, historical, community, family, and personal experience in wellness and recovery
  • Flexibility may be required to accommodate some evenings and weekend work around the MMU schedule; some work may also be conducted at JHC primary site in Sequim, WA
  • Understands and adheres to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR part 2). Applicants must always conduct self ethically and professionally
  • Effective communication; written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution
  • Strong computer and electronic medical record (EMR) skills

The PA-C will provide primary medical care as well as treatment of opiate use disorders with prescription medications such as methadone or buprenorphine to those enrolled at JHC with services being provided in a Mobile Medication Unit (MMU).

  • Provide primary care to patients of the JHC with appropriate clinical management which may include prescription of medications, referrals, and education/counselling. Manage common health issues that arise include Hepatitis C, wounds, and skin infections, URIs, UTIs, HTN, CAD, and asthma
  • Diagnose and/or treat complex, unstable, comorbid, episodic, or emergency conditions in collaboration with other health care providers as necessary
  • Provide medical services including taking a history and physical examination for the opiate treatment program and perform appropriate follow-up visits
  • Accurately and efficiently monitor daily doses of Methadone/Buprenorphine (Suboxone/Subutex) or other medications as indicated by the physician
  • Provide outpatient detoxification and treatment services to patients addicted to opiates
  • Develop treatment plans based on scientific rationale, standards of care, evidence-base practice, and professional guidelines
  • Provide general health counseling services under the supervision of the Medical Director and follow the progress of patients.
  • Make appropriate documentation of findings during examinations and submit charts to the Medical Doctor for review and signature
  • Identify complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Educate patients regarding how to take prescribed medication and possible side effects
  • Adhere to all JHC policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for safety, and work practices as described in the Occupational Exposure Control Plan and HIPAA

What are the Required Qualifications for this position?
  • Licensed MD or DO and in good standing with WA State Medical Board, or able to obtain WA State licensure by February 2022
  • DATA 2000 waivered for the prescription of office-based Buprenorphine.
  • Board certified in Family Medicine, Addiction Medicine, or Internal Medicine.
  • Familiarity with management of MAT prescription medications available (Methadone, Buprenorphine, Naltrexone) for SUDs.
  • Five (5) years’ experience of professional work as a Physician.
  • Previous substance abuse treatment and/or primary care experience.
  • Current knowledge in primary care, mental health, and addiction medicine.
  • Ability to work in a cross-culture environment, understands the social and cultural context of the patients at the JHC. Understands the role of trauma, historical, community, family, and personal experience in wellness and recovery.
  • Understands and adheres to state (RCW, WAC) and federal confidentiality regulations (42 CFR part 2). Must always conduct self ethically and professionally.
  • Good personal and ethical boundaries. Empathy, conflict resolution, and effective communication skills; including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer and software experience using MS Office products.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background investigation.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner program accepted by the State of Washington for licensing; FNP, or AGPCNP
  • Certification by one of the following: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
  • Unrestricted license to practice within Washington
  • Current DEA Certificate without restrictions
  • Previous substance abuse treatment and/or primary care experience
